SWCP Announcement

Dear NOCP Parents & Guardians:

We’re reaching out to share information about Sylvanie Williams College Prep (SWCP), one of the elementary schools in the New Orleans College Prep (NOCP) network.

Earlier today, Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) discussed the future of SWCP in a committee meeting based on the School Performance Scores (SPS) released last week. For the 2016-17 school year, SWCP’s letter grade fell to an “F” and, pending the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s vote in December, it is anticipated that Sylvanie Williams will close at the end of this school year in June 2018. A letter from Superintendent Lewis is linked here if you’d like further information.

SWCP parents were notified yesterday and we wanted all of our NOCP parents and families to hear about this as soon as possible and know that NOCP will be operating Sylvanie Williams through June 2018. There will not be any changes for Sylvanie Williams or any NOCP students this school year. Hoffman, Crocker, and Cohen will not be affected in 2018-19.

New Orleans College Prep is committed to our mission of preparing students with academic and life skills for success in college, career, and beyond. Hoffman Early Learning Center, Crocker College Prep, and Cohen College Prep continue to see great success and we will focus on making these programs even stronger. We’re very proud of the progress made and will continue to grow high quality programs.

We do understand that this transition will be challenging for SWCP students and families. NOCP takes full responsibility for the letter grade and outcomes at Sylvanie Williams over the past few years. We are committed to supporting our families and staff through the remainder of this year and to providing assistance with finding a new school for SWCP students beginning in Fall 2018. For more details on the support plan for families, please see the SWCP Parent Letter that was sent home yesterday. We also have a full support plan in place for staff.

Again, NOCP is committed to preparing our students with academic and life skills for success in college, career, and beyond. We thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
